The digitalization of integrated engineering and manufacturing sites is one of the most exciting challenges the manufacturing industry is facing. The complete value chain is influenced by latest technological approaches. All these different puzzle parts must be arranged to create the complete picture and to harvest the advantages of SMART factories. The approach of creating a digital lighthouse in the medical equipment market will be presented – the new “High Energy Photonic Center” as one of the largest investments of Healthineers. Additionally, the planning and ramp-up of manufacturing site is demonstrated by using digital twins. Combined with artificial intelligence, a further leverage of benefits is done. The uniqueness of the presented approach is the integration of various tools as one functional digital backbone. Investigating these central aspects will broaden participants’ understanding of the following topics:
Jens Fuerst studied physics at the University of Bayreuth, Germany follow by a PHD in semiconductor physics. In 2004 he started at Siemens Corporate Technology in Erlangen in the field of organic photo detectors. Since 2008 he took over different functions in innovation, research & development, product development and manufacturing of medical equipment at Siemens Healthineers. Since 2019 he was responsible for Automation and Digitalization of the Technology Center Power & Vacuum, creating and implementing the SMART Factory Vision for the digital lighthouse project “High Energy Photonic Center”. In 2022 he became Principal Key Expert for Digitalization and Automation at Siemens Healthineers followed by the MBA in Digital Transformation from University Vienna, Austria. Since 2024 Jens is additionally heading the Supply Chain Strategy and Automation Unit.
What motivates me:
Combining digitalization and automation initiatives opens a complete universe for improving the overall business performance especially in supply chain environments and supports identifying new business opportunities. As a physicist with a demonstrated international history in innovation, research & development and manufacturing I know, where the latest approaches can be implemented in the most efficient way.
